the run down on window dressings

Window dressings are a very important asset to the design and atmosphere of a space. Whether you’d like to soften a space, filter light, add thermal barriers or add crisp clean lines; windows always need a finishing fixture to really dress the space.

I personally love dressing up a window and rarely think they should be left bare, although a lot people just don’t know where to start, so In this months blog post I am briefly going through some of the different options.

SHEER CURTAINS

Sheer curtains are a gorgeous addition to any space, they add a beautiful soft aesthetic and are extremely practical. Sheers provide some privacy and filter natural light entering your space.

Sheer curtains are an impactful piece in most living spaces, they add a soft feature, to really make your space feel homely. When done right these curtains will look modern in your home AND add some grandeur to your ceiling height!

My ultimate favourite colours to use when applying sheers, is of course crisp white and a soft grey!

BLOCK OUT CURTAINS

Block out curtains are a thick fabric that has been created to NOT let any lighting through, this is a fantastic way to have a great nights sleep with no light creeping in, keep in the warmth in winter and also absorb some sound. This layer of heavy, stunning fabric will add a lovely texture to your space and can certainly dress up your windows.

Block out curtains can be ready made in a large range of fabrics, or get exactly what you’re after and customise them to your needs.

ROMAN BLINDS

Roman blinds are one of my favourite options for dressing up a window, these are practical, especially for covering up a small window.

Roman blinds can be customised with any fabric to suit your space. This window dressing is wonderful for use in so many interior styles, some of them being:

  • Hamptons

  • Farmhouse

  • Coastal

  • Transitional

  • Traditional

Have you ever considered custom roman blinds? Well, you might now!

PLANTATION SHUTTERS

Plantation shutters are VERY popular right now, most of my clients are after a Hamptons aesthetic at the moment and these window dressings have been one of the first requests for the design.

These are a more crisp aesthetic than soft window coverings, they are great for added privacy, light filtration and the overall aesthetic is great!

Plantation shutters do come in multiple colours, they are preferable to be installed by professionals but you can try and DIY it.

VERI SHADES

A new option to the market is Verishades, these are unique, aesthetically pleasing and practical!

They have both the appearance of a vertical blind and sheer curtains, BUT, they are made to separate and walk through, super easy!

For more information on these products, go and check out the Verishade website.
