keeping track of your budget

Whilst undertaking any design project, renovation or new build it is extremely important to keep track of your expenses to keep inline with your budget. Not only so you don’t go over on your budget, but instead to make the most out of your budget.
Ensuring you make the most out of your budget ensures you have gotten value for money, as well as getting the best result from your project.

In todays blog post follow along as I explain the benefits of a product schedule.

PRODUCT SCHEDULE BENEFITS

There are multiple benefits of using a product schedule for your project, especially depending on how you will use it. A product schedule can be used for both product selections and trade work expenses.
Below are just some of the reasons I use a product schedule:

  • It is an easy to track list of all the products or expenses

  • All item sizes are readily available for when you need them

  • All supplier easily accessible

  • Track quantities purchased

  • Keep track of your pricing and delivery fees

  • Track all estimated times of arrival

LINKS AND IMAGES

My product schedules are made in Canva, using some of their really cool tools such as their ‘link’ function, this enables you to highlight some text and link it to a url; I use this for my item description and link to the product url for easy info access at the touch of a button. Using an easy function like this allows me to include lots of written information rather than an image.

KEEP TRACK OF ANY AND ALL EXPENSES

Using one schedule for products and another to include your trade/construction expenses can help you keep an eye on trade invoices matching prices originally quoted; write all dated each trade is expecting to start work.

This is the product schedule I present to my clients during a design project, It helps both myself and my clients keep track of all selections by having all information at their fingertips. I keep a detailed budget by including any delivery fees in the delivery section and itemising separately in the total figures section. Using a template like this will assist you in maintaining detailed control of your project expenses.

If you’d like to use this schedule it is available for purchase on my website where you will receive a pdf and also the option for the Canva template. Please click here to view this purchasable item.
