tile trends for 2023

Tile colours, patterns and styles available in Australia have massively expanded in the last few years; making trendy designs you find online much more accessible. As the Australian tile market expands rapidly and so much option is available at our fingertips, we can only expect some gorgeous design trends for 2023.

In todays blog post I am making my 2023 tiling trend predictions. Some of these you may be very farmiliar with, but I believe we will see more and more bathrooms include these styles.

SUBWAY & SQUARE MIX WALL TILE

This funky, asymmetrical style has become more popular and more widely available across tile stores in Australia. This is the perfect tile choice for a subtle, yet interesting and textured wall.

This tile trend has become increasingly sought after due to its simplistic yet irregular aesthetic. This tile mix is a great alternative to standard subways and lay styles.

HANDMADE SQUARES

If you would like to achieve a textured splashback or feature wall; look no further than handmade or clay backed subways or squares.

This gorgeous style of tile will provide colour variation and texture which will increase the overall depth and character of your splashback or walls.

Handmade tiles will be perfect for a farmhouse, coastal, hampton or tuscan villa aesthetic.

SOFT TERRAZZO

Terrazzo has become extremely popular, with some brave enough to dabble in brightly coloured terrazzo tiles.

While I don’t think this look will phase out quickly; I anticipate a soft, subtle terrazzo pattern will become a more common selection this year, with the aim of longevity and simplistic beauty becoming the main goal of this design style in Australian homes.

MINIMALISTIC & ELEGANT

Most notably seen as the ‘Zephyr and Stone’ style, this minimal and elegant look is becoming extremely popular.

Seen as a no fuss, beautiful and clean aesthetic, providing an overall spacious and easily achievable look is this minimalistic design.

Full of wall hung vanities, plenty of storage, clean lines and pale grey tones is one of the most popular aesthetics for 2023.

Achieve this look with a minimal, stone look tile in a light grey colour.

HALF HEIGHT SHOWER SHELVES

Out with the full feature walls and in with the shower shelf!
Not only is this a great storage solution for all the shampoo bottles, but also a fantastic design choice.

I personally love incorporating a shower shelf to reduce the expense of a full feature wall. Replicating a look as seen in the bathroom (left), you can cut costs on your feature tile. Running your floor tile up the bottom half of the wall up to the shelf and your feature tile on the top half, reduces the expense on your feature tile. This could be the difference between a mosaic tile sold by the sheet or expensive feature tile fitting into your budget.

WARM COASTAL LOOK

Of course cream walls are being painted over with whites or greys and bathrooms are being redone in more modern colour schemes. Don’t be fooled, warm colour schemes are still in!

More often these colour schemes are being achieved with natural stone such as travertine or a travertine look tile. Paired with lots of white and stylish tapware in brushed brass or brushed nickel this look is becoming a high end, warm coastal aesthetic.

Will you be implementing any of these styles into your home this year?
